Mission of Indian Education Committee

The mission of the Kayenta Unified School District ("KUSD") Johnson O'Malley ("JOM") Indian Education Committee ("IEC") is to support, promote, and assure optimum educational opportunities for American Indian students in Kayenta Unified School District and adhere to the established Kayenta Unified School District policies.

Purpose of Indian Education Committee

The purpose of the Indian Education Committee shall be:

A) To promote the welfare of American Indian children and youth in home, school, community, and tribe.

B) To raise the standards of school achievement of American Indian children.

C) To bring into closer relationship the home and the school so that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of American Indian children and youth.

D) To plan for the development of programs designed to meet the specialized and unique educational needs of eligible Indian students-through Indigenous Cultural and Indigenous language instructions.

E) To actively be involved in the development of a Needs Assessment that determines priorities; and promotes parental/guardians' involvement in completing the survey.

F) To actively be involved in the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Kayenta Unified School District Johnson O'Malley Program to support Yazzie & Salt Cultural Center.
